A SUSTAINABLE & PEACEFUL WORLD

Through strategic advocacy and targeted programming, the IIHS is committed to raising the visibility of changemakers from traditionally marginalized regions. By providing a platform to showcase their invaluable contributions to global peace, security, and the advancement of the UN 2030 Global Goals, we aim to inspire global action and drive progress toward a more equitable and sustainable world. Our storytelling platform has highlighted impactful initiatives and amplified the voices of changemakers from diverse countries, including Romania, Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Benin, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Pakistan, the USA, Turkey, Spain, Switzerland, and others.

ABOUT US

In collaboration with international organizations, academic institutions, and individuals, the IIHS advocates for human security and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on good governance, food security, climate protection, the Responsibility to Protect (R2P), indigenous rights, women and migrants’ rights, and the eradication of modern-day slavery.

Founded in 2019, the IIHS addresses inequities faced by geographically disenfranchised communities and amplifies grassroots efforts to achieve the UN 2030 Global Goals.

VISION AND MISSION

Our mission is to amplify the voices and efforts of changemakers in marginalized regions, empowering them to advance the 2030 UN Global Goals and strengthen human security. We elevate the visibility of those driving positive change in underserved communities through targeted programming, advocacy, storytelling, and collaborations.

Human security, as defined by the UN, is a fundamental right focusing on individual and community safety, including freedom from fear, want, and indignity.

The IIHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity based in Chicago, USA.

OUR PROGRAMS

♦ Knowledge Enhancement Program

IIHS Core Program for Leaders and Changemakers (CPLC), led by Dr. Yara Zgheib

An immersive, high-impact multi-day workshop where a select cohort of fellows from around the world come together to design and enhance innovative peacebuilding initiatives. This annual program alternates between an in-person retreat in the Swiss Alps and an online format, ensuring participation from individuals in traditionally underserved and geographically isolated regions. The program fosters collaboration and actionable strategies for advancing global peace efforts.

♦Discussion Series

Advocacy Unplugged: Bridging Perspectives | Led by Tiffany Hayes
This ongoing series, led by Tiffany Hayes, offers in-depth discussions on global peace, security challenges, and progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Through these sessions, we spotlight the personal stories of global changemakers making a significant impact in fostering lasting change.

Voices of Refugees | Led by Tiffany Hayes

Also led by Tiffany Hayes, this ongoing series amplifies the voices of women migrants from around the world. It highlights the work of Restarter, a Dutch-based platform founded by Noemi Mena Montes and Anita Delhaas-van Dijk, empowering refugees to rebuild their lives through networks, education, and employment opportunities.

Human security is anchored in the strength of key societal elements, which we refer to as societal stabilizers. Our advocacy efforts prioritize six critical components of human security.
  • Good Governance
  • Protection of Women as migrants, refugees and victims of human trafficking
  • Food Security
  • The Responsibility to Protect (R2P)
  • Climate Protection
  • Indigenous Rights
